Sponsored litterpick

24/02/2020 by Digital Media

On the weekend of the 21st March, a few members of my friends, family and myself, are going to be cleaning up litter in an area of West Bridgford/Gamston, in an effort to fundraise for a charity whilst also improving the local environment.

The charity I will be raising money for is ICS – a programme run by Voluntary Service Overseas, that sends young people like myself on three month long placements in developing countries. This summer, I will be going to Cambodia on one of these placements, with the aim of improving the livelihoods and entrepreneurship skills of young people in Tang Krasang, a rural community there. The programme is funded by the government, but as part of the challenge and to help us gain certain skills each volunteer is required to raise £1500 to put back into the scheme.

Climate change and the environment is something that will affect us all, but especially those who are less fortunate. There are huge problems with plastic waste and litter in a lot of third-world countries such as Cambodia. Litter picking at home may only be a small step, but it is in the right direction to having a positive impact.

Any support from you will be really appreciated – please visit my Just Giving page, https://www.justgiving.com/FinnualaBrett, for more details on the ICS programme, and if you would like to donate. I will also be posting updates on my fundraising here.
