What a difference a few weeks make to Covid restrictions. In January the Omicron situation and a bad weather forecast caused us, like many other groups, to cancel the meeting. Our members were particularly disappointed as Chantelle Thornley was booked to perform ‘An evening with Irena’ about a Polish lady who rescued Jewish children in WW2. This performance was cancelled the previous year so we are hoping it will prove to be 3rd time lucky in 2023.
The easing of the Covid threat meant we were able to hold the group’s AGM and 10th Birthday celebration this month. Chairman Gerry gave an upbeat report about how the group has thrived despite the difficulties of the past 2 years. Among the long list of thanks special mention was made of Southwell Town Bowls Club and Southwell Scout Group for making our move to larger premises viable.
Vice Chairman David set up a projector and screen so Treasurer Sandra could present her report without wasting funds on paper copies. The Officers and committee members were all reappointed unanimously, and the future of the group looks bright.
With 23 people at the AGM the buffet table was well laden with party food including a beautiful birthday cake made by Carol. It was an iced fruit cake decorated with a country scene of hand-crafted sugar flowers, foliage and animals. We all agreed it was too beautiful to eat but then encouraged Carol to cut it up so we could tuck in.

We meet from 11.00am – 1.00pm on the 2nd Saturday of the month at Southwell Town Bowls Club, Bishop’s Drive, Southwell, NG25 0GD. Just £1 per person and a plate of food towards the lunch.
