We may still be in some fairly wintery weather, but The Bleasby Bikers Cycling Club are already planning for the year ahead. Following a successful 2021, which saw a number of the club take on some epic rides and 18 riders head to Oswestry for the annual weekend trip away, the plan for 2022 looks just as exciting.
The club are planning to enter a number of local ‘sportive’ events (well-organised rides that enable riders to try out a range of new roads in the company of other cyclists), as well as heading to Yorkshire to enjoy some of the routes available in a county, which (thanks to the Tour de France in 2014 and subsequent Tours de Yorkshire) is enjoying a reputation as one of England’s best counties for cycling.
In addition to plans for 2022, with cycling continuing to enjoy a growth period in the UK, the club are also looking to recruit new members. Already at 60-strong, there are a great range of abilities and new riders don’t need to be at Tour de France levels of fitness, as there are different distance ride options each week and there is always a cafe stop along the way!
The club meets at the Waggon and Horses in Bleasby on a Sunday morning for the regular weekly rides, with a number of riders joining from surrounding villages, including Southwell, Thurgarton, Lowdham and Hockerton and new riders are always made to feel welcome.
