Nottingham Hospitals Charity is proud to announce that it will continue to support the Nottingham teams participating in this year’s British Transplant Games.
Taking place in Nottingham from 1st-4th August 2024, the Games gives transplant recipients of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate in over 24 sports across the four days. The Games is the flagship event of charity, Transplant Sport.
Nottingham Hospitals Charity has a longstanding commitment to the Games and has provided over £217,000 of funding to equip the Nottingham teams involved and offer support from behind the scenes for the past ten years.
This year, Nottingham Hospitals Charity is thrilled that the Games are being held in its home city of Nottingham, underscoring the significance of this event for families and patients alike – the charity believes that hosting the Games in Nottingham will have a positive impact on the city, raising its profile and highlighting its strong sporting history and welcoming atmosphere.
Dr Paul Harden, Chair of Transplant Sport, said: “We are extremely grateful for the support provided by Nottingham Hospitals Charity over the past 10 years. Our teams heavily rely on funding from hospital charities, whether it’s for equipment, travel expenses, or other needs. The ongoing support from the hospital’s charity has been evident through the consistent presence of the Nottingham team at the Games and the ongoing effort to raise the profile of organ donation and transplantation. Here’s to a successful Nottingham 2024 Games which we’re all eagerly anticipating!”
Nigel Gregory, Chief Executive of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, expressed his enthusiasm, saying: “We are delighted that the British Transplant Games is coming to Nottingham this year. Our significant investment in the adults and children’s teams competing over the past ten years reflects our commitment to transplant recipients and donors here in our home city, and our desire to boost morale among patients and families at Nottingham’s hospitals.”
The charity is proactively working to raise the profile of the Games, particularly through its involvement in the Donor Run, a flagship event of the Games that sees thousands of transplant recipients and donor families take part in the highly anticipated event. This year, they are eager to make the Donor Run as significant and successful as possible and will have a limited number of spaces available for charity supporters to take part in the run. The event takes place at the picturesque Wollaton Park on the evening of Saturday 3rd August.
Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s presence at the run will be marked by various activities, including blowing the air horn to start the race, distributing medals, providing cheer points along the route, and providing volunteers as well as a giant mascot for entertainment.
Nottingham Hospitals Charity partners Nottingham Rugby will also deliver a fun, family-friendly warm-up on race day.
This year marks the first time Nottingham Hospitals Charity will attend the British Transplant Games, and the team are eagerly anticipating the experience.
