At East Leake Academy, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Our post 16 enrichment programme is a testament to this belief, offering students a wealth of opportunities to grow, learn, and prepare for their future careers. From the adrenaline rush of sports to the creativity of community event planning, our programme is designed to help students develop essential skills and discover their passions.
Each year, our students have the privilege of hearing from a diverse group of speakers who bring the world of work and higher education to life. This year, representatives from Northumbria University shared the excitement and challenges of university life, while the Bank of England offered a glimpse into the world of finance. UCFB explored courses in sports, business, and media. The Army, Sainsbury’s, and Welcome Break discussed careers ranging from military service to retail and hospitality, while the British Red Cross and Royal Voluntary Service inspired students with stories of humanitarian work.
We believe in the power of real-world experiences and peer learning. Each year, we invite former students back to share their journeys since leaving East Leake Academy. This year, Tom from The Dairy, an award-winning marketing agency, captivated students with his story of success in marketing. Brittany shared her fulfilling career in the NHS, and Abbi spoke about her adventures in physiotherapy and travel. These alumni provide current students with relatable role models and practical advice for their future careers.
Our programme includes a series of workshops aimed at equipping students with the tools they need for academic and personal success. From mastering study skills and time management to understanding the impact of Artificial Intelligence, these sessions are designed to be both practical and inspiring. Students have learned the importance of organ donation, explored apprenticeship opportunities, and navigated the complexities of the UCAS application process. Workshops on personal statement writing, gap years, international study, student finance, and first aid have provided invaluable guidance.
Our enrichment programme also includes annual trips that offer students experience of university life and career opportunities. This year’s trip to Lincoln University allowed students to tour the campus and get a taste of university life. This summer, we’ll be attending the annual UCAS exhibition, where students can meet representatives from universities and companies offering apprenticeship routes, all under one roof.
We recently held our induction days, welcoming prospective year 12 students to East Leake Academy. These days were packed with activities designed to give new students a first-hand experience of the unique opportunities and vibrant atmosphere at our academy. From team-building challenges and sports to budget cooking and Young Enterprise projects, there was something for everyone. Students also learned basic car maintenance and first aid, explored their creativity through crafts and media, and wrapped up the days with a social gathering and ice cream.
We’re also excited to announce our upcoming sixth form open evening on Wednesday 16 October from 6-7.30pm. This event is a fantastic opportunity for prospective students and their parents to explore what makes East Leake Academy vibrant and dynamic place to study.
