A 14-year-old Scout from Beeston is preparing to cycle more than 70 miles in a determined fundraising challenge to help him attend one of the world’s biggest international Scouting events.

Adam Field, a member of 3rd Chilwell Explorer Scouts, has been selected as part of the Nottinghamshire contingent travelling to the World Scout Jamboree in Gdansk, Poland, in August 2027.
The World Scout Jamboree is a huge international Scout camp held every four years, bringing together young people from around 176 countries. The event offers opportunities to take part in outdoor adventures, cultural exchanges and global friendship activities, making it a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many young Scouts.
To help fund his place, Adam will take on a sponsored bike ride called “From the City to the Sea – for the Jamboree” on 25 May.
Alongside his dad, Richard, Adam will set off from the City Ground and Trent Bridge before cycling 71 miles to the Lincolnshire coast, finishing near Boston. Along the route, he hopes to pass several Scout groups who are also participating in the Jamboree programme.
Adam joined Scouting as a Beaver at the age of six and has been training hard for the challenge since February.
He said: “It would be amazing to get at least one person to sponsor each mile of my challenge. It would really help me to keep going to complete the ride, and reach my goal. Growing up in Beeston, I’ve seen how the community comes together to support each other. I’m already paying it back by talking to younger Scouts, Cubs and Beavers about the Jamboree and inspiring them on their own adventures in Scouting.”
Adam’s mother, Lucy, said the family hopes the community will get behind the challenge and support Adam’s fundraising efforts.
“He’s been working really hard on his training and we’re hoping the weather will be kind to him on the day,” she said. “He’ll certainly have earned an ice cream by the time he reaches the sea.”
