Attenborough Church Pre-School celebrates 65 years!

04/06/2026 by Digital Media

On the sunny afternoon of Tuesday 12th May, an exciting event occurred at Attenborough Village Hall, attended by many. It was a celebration of the 65th year of Attenborough Church Pre-School, a not-for-profit organisation, and offered fantastic fun for everyone.

Leigh-Anne, Amanda, Ishani, Toshimi, Laura, Laura and Joelle. Front row – Louise, Hannah, Maisie and Debby (Pre-School Manager)

Tesco Toton had kindly provided refreshments, including fruit, cake and squash; free entertainment for little guests included a much-loved bouncy castle and garden games; for parents, there was a raffle to raise money for new resources – plus, pre-school staff serving teas and coffees.  There was an interesting display of memorabilia which brought a tear to many an eye.

Talking to parents was telling as to reasons for the ongoing success of this beloved Pre- School: Matt, dad to Evie, was so proud to see that both his daughter and older son had been coaxed ‘out of their shells’ by being part of this nurturing second home; Gemma, mum to Matilda, had such high praise for the ‘devoted and highly experienced staff’. In fact, all carers felt ‘lucky’ to have the opportunity to be part of this ‘community’ and wanted it made very clear that this is not a ‘business’. It is so much more.

Many employees are parents who have, themselves, benefited from this rather unique setting. How amazing that Arlene’s family is now on their third generation enjoying this happy establishment?! There was an overriding desire for parents of former attendees to ‘give back’. Many have taken on the role of Committee Member or given up time to run fundraising events.

A special mention must be made of Joan, who gave 34 years before retiring just over 3 years ago. No secret… she is not really retired! Still acting as a voluntary Committee Member, she also helps out at key events.

The Pre-School has adapted over the years to meet the needs of local families and now offer pre-school education to children from two years of age, including breakfast, after-school and holiday clubs, with no additional compulsory charges for families with funded hours.  The setting also benefits from the Hall’s enormous garden, a much-loved space by the staff and children.

Spaces are available, see www.attenboroughchurchpreschool.com.
