Adventure awaits at Nottinghamshire County Show

30/04/2026 by Digital Media

With just days to go until the Nottinghamshire County Show returns to Newark Showground on May 9, anticipation is building for a day that promises to blend imagination, community spirit and high-energy entertainment.

At the heart of this year’s show, a new generation of young bakers will take centre stage in one of the event’s most popular competitions. Budding cake decorators aged 8–12 have been busy preparing their entries for the Make, Bake & Grow competition, where the challenge is to create a showstopping design inspired by a weather theme.

Adding to the excitement, MasterChef finalist Claire Syrenne will be on hand to judge the class. Claire, a Newark local, appeared on BBC One’s MasterChef last year, and will be carefully assessing each design before presenting the award to the winning young baker.

Claire said: “I can’t wait to see the children’s creations – the weather theme gives so much scope for imagination. Competitions like this are such a fantastic way to encourage creativity and confidence, and it’s brilliant to see so many young people getting involved.”

While the cake competition showcases creativity in the food tent, the main ring will be alive with action as Knights of Nottingham deliver a thrilling live performance inspired by Robin Hood. Audiences can expect daring sword fights, heroic characters and plenty of drama as the reenactment unfolds, offering a spectacle for visitors of all ages.

Organised by the Newark and Notts Agricultural Society, the county show celebrates the very best of rural life, from livestock and equestrian competitions to food, farming and hands-on family activities.

Elizabeth Halsall, event manager for the Nottinghamshire County Show, said: “What makes the show so special is the sheer variety of experiences on offer.

“Visitors can enjoy our ‘Ask a Farmer’ feature to learn more about where their food comes from, watch impressive gun dog displays, or explore the Community Zone and sports hub with free activities to get involved in.

“There are also fairground rides and attractions to keep younger visitors entertained throughout the day.

“Having Claire judge the children’s competition adds an extra layer of excitement, and we’re delighted to have the Knights of Nottingham bringing such an engaging performance to this year’s show.”

Alongside these highlights, visitors can enjoy the Festival of Food, live music, countryside activities, trade stands and a wide range of attractions designed especially for families.

With final preparations underway, organisers are encouraging visitors to secure their tickets now and be part of one of Nottinghamshire’s biggest celebrations of countryside, community and creativity.

Tickets are available via www.nottinghamshirecountyshow.com, with gates opening at 9am and free general parking available.
