Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to keep children motivated to read from their own homes over the summer break. To take part in Silly Squad, children need to sign up at www.sillysquad.org.uk . Children taking part online will meet the Silly Squad; a loveable bunch of animals who run a fantastic fun house. Using the website to log the books they read, they can rate and review them too. They’ll unlock digital rewards, badges and activities as they progress through the challenge.
Punch and Judy Show
Children’s Entertainer, Professor Paul Temple, will come to Rufford Abbey Country Park each Thursday throughout August to provide his popular Punch and Judy Show. The shows are free to watch and will take place on 13th 20th and 27th August at the following times: 12.30pm / 1.30pm / 2.30pm. Councillor John Handley, Vice Chairman for the Communities and Place committee at the County Council said: “Due to the impact of Covid-19 many Nottinghamshire residents have unfortunately cancelled or postponed their summer holiday’s this year. Although plans may have changed, now is the perfect time to truly explore what’s on your own doorstep and fall in love with everything that our county has to offer.”
As the warm weather arrives this weekend, I’d like to encourage families to visit the many beautiful country parks that Nottinghamshire boasts such as Rufford, Sherwood Forest, Holme Pierrepoint, Bestwood and Cotgrave, whilst maintaining social distancing and keeping safe.”
“If your family is more comfortable staying indoors, we have put together a fantastic range of free activities to keep the whole family busy such as games, arts and crafts activities, the summer reading challenge or why not try a virtual museum tour? There really is something for everyone.”
