Just before half term we had a lovely week at school focusing on the very important issue of wellbeing and mental health. During the week we did lots of learning about mental health and discovered techniques to positively support our wellbeing.
The Infant children were treated to an afternoon of calming regulation and meditation techniques. These helped them to learn how to recognise and cope with big emotions. A big thank you to Julie Moore (one of our school Grandmas!) for sharing her time and wisdom with the children.
In addition, all the Junior children had a session with the MHST (Mental Health Support Team), focussed on wellbeing and recognising the things that help to keep us well, both mentally and physically. We also whole group singing, led by Milly Lawson the Creative Arts Officer at Open Doors a project supported by Newark and Sherwood District Council.
To round the week off we did some reading for pleasure, older children were reading to their younger friends in school and everyone enjoyed coming together. We ended on a real high, with a book fair and cake sale in school. Everyone loves cake here at Gunthorpe, so our wellbeing was most definitely topped up!
If you or your family would like to come and have a tour of our beautiful village school, please contact the school office (0115 9663481). We would love to share our school with you.
