Trent Chamber Orchestra resumes its concert series early in the New Year this time at St Paul’s Church, Boundary Rd, West Bridgford.
Music Director, Derek Williams says: “We’re trying out St Paul’s as a new venue for us. The inspiration for this came from prominent local musician Andrew Nicklin who was presenting a concert there in November for Dementia UK. The concert was sold out weeks in advance, clearly there is a lot of support for Classical Music from the St Paul’s Community.
The title of the concert ‘Fire and Ice’ will strike a chord with locals who will have fond memories of the popular restaurant on Bridgford Road.
Derek continued: “For a soloist, I contacted Jo Cole Head of Strings at The Royal Academy of Music who I’d known from our days in Bedfordshire since she was 13. Daniel Stroud was recommended by her as one of their finest graduates in recent years, The popular showpiece by Saint-Saens is one that Daniel had coincidentally started thinking of learning the very morning that I contacted him!
“We again present an Overture and Symphony by Beethoven. Our principal flute Rachel Green will be the star in Gluck’s dreamy and sensuous Dance of the Blessed Spirits – read about Rachel at our website: www.trent-chamber.co.uk – Valse Triste by Sibelius is also perhaps not one to try to dance to as is the last of our 3 dances, perhaps the inspiration for the title of our concert by which time wintry weather may be with us with ice on the roads!”
“If our January concert proves a success, then we shall present a series of chamber music recitals at St Paul’s Church on Sunday afternoons right through to the summer given by members of Trent Chamber Orchestra. More about those next month before our February concert.”
