The Chilwell Community Association who manage the Chilwell Community Centre and Library on Inham Road, on behalf of Broxtowe Borough Council who own the building, have recently been able to purchase three portable defibrillators and presented them to local organisations.
The Chilwell Community Association Committee having noted that defibrillators have played a significant role in saving lives in recent times decided to contact three local organisations that have a significant and varied membership to see if they would be interested in receiving one. The response was positive from each of them.
The next stage was to identify a suitable model that best fitted their needs. The Association chairman, Graham Harvey, a former Mayor of the borough, contacted another former Mayor Derek Burnett BEM, who had many years’ experiences as a First Responder, to call on his expertise. Derek also offered his services to any of the groups who felt that they would benefit from his input. He has subsequently supported both the church and allotment members in the use of the defibrillator.
The recipients of these defibrillators have been St Barnabas Church, Inham Nook Allotments and Phoenix Inham Football Club.
The photograph below shows Graham Harvey with Derek Burnett presenting one of the defibrillators to Rev Jonathan Strickland at St Barnabas Church.
The Chilwell Community Association was formed in 2002 and is looking for local community minded people to join its committee. Contact Graham Harvey on 07952792695 or email [email protected].
