Your local Community Charity, the Core Centre recently applied for specialist funding from National Grid to buy items that would help people within the community stay warm.
This application was successful and enabled them to purchase various items, giving them away for free to local people who need them most!
This project, which is called ‘Winter Warmers’ is already in full flow with an event taking places at the Calverton Christmas Lights switch on.
Over 100 people signed up for packs which include a hot water bottle and 2 other items which you can choose. Some of the items available include: Slipper socks, flasks, hat, gloves and scarf sets, fleece blankets/oodies or wearable blankets.
As part of the project, there is also plenty of advise available to local residents on how to tackle damp or mould problems, help to identifying causes of heat loss in the home and offering useful tips for saving energy and water.
The scheme can also help people access other support, such as emergency heating, government subsidies or grants or advice on energy or water debt.
Below are some of the comments received from the local resident who have already benefited from the project:
‘The help we’ve received by not having to buying these items, can now be put towards money for food.’
‘My new flask will stop me having to get up during the night to have a hot drink.’
‘Using a hot water bottle is ideal to keep the chidren warm, instead of having to put the heating on!’
