The After 8 Quartet lift spirits of East Leake WI

08/03/2023 by Digital Media

We were delighted to welcome a magnificent turnout to our January meeting, including one new member and 4 visitors to enjoy an evening of entertainment with a sense of humour.

The After 8 Quartet lifted our spirits with their performances of a variety of songs which ranged from their unique interpretation of The Magic Flute to the Teddy Bears picnic with some Elvis, amongst many other things, in between, all interspersed with banter and jokes. Needless to say, there was much laughter and appreciative applause and the evening was much enjoyed by all.

During the break between acts, members had time to socialise over refreshments and sign up for our monthly activities which include an evening meal at Heat, East Leake; Out for Coffee at Antlers at Manor Farm, where we are keen to sample the new cake selection, and a sociable stroll round Gotham followed by a café stop.

The new year also bought the chance for our ladies to suggest possible outings for 2023 and vote on the shortlist of Resolutions supplied by the National Federation. The most popular one will be discussed, at the same time as all WIs nationally, at our May meeting and, if adopted, will go to the vote at the National Annual meeting and ultimately become a WI campaign.

We are looking forward to the rest of our programme of speakers with a change to the one advertised for February as our much anticipated talk on Chocolate has had to be postponed. Happily, we will be welcoming back Jo Golby who will be giving us her costumed talk on Laura Ashley – A Design for Life.

For details of our full programme of speakers please visit our page on the village website https://east-leake.co.uk/east-leake-womens-institute/ or look out for our posters on the village noticeboards and outside the library.

New to the village or been here a while? Why not come along as a visitor, enjoy a pleasant evening and  join in and find out more about us. We offer a warm welcome to a range of events and activities with fun and friendship. For further information please contact our Membership Secretary, Carolyn Barnett, on [email protected]
