The lead up to Christmas in Stapleford officially begins on Saturday 23rd November with Stapleford Christmas Lights Switch On. Taking place from 4.30pm-6.30pm, you can expect to be delighted with festivities in Walter Parker VC Memorial Square, Victoria Street and within Victoria Street car park.
Make sure you are at Walter Parker VC Square for the Christmas countdown for the official light switch on at 5.30pm along with the Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Michael Brown, and the Mayor of Stapleford, Ray Derby.
The main stage on Victoria Street car park will be hosting some fabulous performances from local choirs and performers as well as headline act The Frandells. You might also spot Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham as you make your way around the streets. At 6.30pm the end of the event will be signalled by the fireworks finale. Remember to be in the car park to get the best view of the fireworks.
Santa will be visiting Stapleford in his magical grotto, from 2.30pm-5.45pm on Walter Parker Square and he will be looking forward to speaking to the children to find out if they have been naughty or nice this year. Children who visit Father Christmas will get a ticket, and one lucky child will receive a GOLDEN TICKET. The Golden ticket winner will be invited on stage to lead the countdown to the firework display.
During the event, there will also be an opportunity to visit the arts and crafts fair, where independent traders will be selling some wonderful Christmas gifts. You can get in the festive spirit by sampling warm doughnuts and hot chocolate; the kids can also have some fun on the fairground rides or have a go on hook a duck. As always, local businesses will be open throughout the evening, so pop in and say hello.
If this is not enough, you can also have a look out for the businesses taking part a window dressing competition in support of the White Ribbon campaign that tackles issues relating to male violence against women. The winning local business will be presented with a prize on the main stage.
Please note that there will be road closures in place during the lead up to the event and for the event itself. Victoria Street and the bottom half of the car park will be closed for the day and Derby Road will be closed from the junctions of William Road and Albert Avenue from 4.30pm until 7.30pm. Please plan your routes before travelling.
The event is organised by LLeisure events in conjunction with the Stapleford Christmas Steering Group, Stapleford Town Council and supported by Stapleford Community Group as well as Meadow View Glamping.
