Up, Up and Away is the theme for this inspirational event that brings the community together.
The annual Sherwood Art Week, a celebration of the art world, is an ideal opportunity for local artists in a range of forms, to promote their work. However, that is not all you will find during this event when the whole community comes together.
Created in 2009 as a two day art exhibition at The Place Art Centre, Melrose Street, Sherwood, the event has since grown, not only in it’s duration but also in the variety of activities on offer.
Now a nine-day event, Sherwood Art Week, backed by local sponsorship, has the support of over seventy shops on Mansfield and Haydn Roads, where art of all kinds will be on display: paintings, ceramics, photography, textiles, glasswork, delightful yarn bombing and mixed media. There will be exhibitions in schools, and workshops for those who would like to acquire new skills. How about learning how to hook a rug? Or making your own copper jewellery? Not your bag perhaps, then how about bobbin lace making, painting, creative writing, crocheting, lino printing and an introduction to playing the guitar.
In addition, the community events include painting in the park, nature trails, Poetry Open Mic Night, Folk Music Club, Family Craft Afternoon, and there is so much more to enjoy and improve your skills, and creativity.
So take a look at this year’s Sherwood Art Week Brochure for that craft you have always wanted to try. Or perhaps, you will be inspired to try something new, perhaps something you have never thought of previously. You will often have heard the saying, “There’s something for everyone”, but this time, there really is.
