Sewa Day Nottingham is a charity which is dedicated to doing acts of kindness selflessly. Working with Communities Working Together (CWT), they have been running a Christmas box appeal for the last couple of years. Last year they managed a mammoth volunteer effort of packing 1,300 boxes.
The gifts went out to homeless people, young carers, care leavers, children on free school meals, survivors of domestic violence and teenagers in need.
Alongside the volunteers, the charities have been sponsored by many businesses for donations, with schools also participating to wrap 1,300 boxes, all to go out in time for Christmas. In previous years, Edwalton Church Hall and West Bridgford Methodist Church have offered their premises for packing. 200 school children participated last year to wrap the boxes.
This year, volunteers plan to pack over 1,000 shoeboxes again and request the support of community groups, local clubs, businesses, and schools, to all get involved in wrapping shoe boxes or collecting donations (brand new items only). This year is going to be challenging, given the current cost of living crisis, and many of our recipients will not be getting any presents for Christmas. Every little bit helps, and no donation is considered too small. The boxes will be wrapped and distributed on 11th December and the charities are appealing for donations before 5th December.
Sewa Day and CWT are happy to collect donations directly.
