Nottinghamshire’s favourite cycling and walking charity, RideWise, has just turned 20, and they had a celebration worthy of two decades of pedal power, fresh air, and life-changing impact!
Since 2005, RideWise has helped over a million people across the region travel greener, live healthier, and gain confidence on feet or wheels. From teaching toddlers to ride their first bike to leading community health walks that lift spirits and boost wellbeing, they’ve been at the heart of sustainable travel in the county.
“If you’ve got kids in a Nottingham school, chances are we’ve taught them to ride – we might’ve even taught you too!” Helen Hemstock, Chief Executive said.
From the beginning, RideWise has been all about accessibility. Their inclusive, low-cost (often free!) services reach families, schools, job seekers, people with disabilities, and anyone looking for a little more confidence or support. Whether it’s a free bike fix at a Dr Bike event, affordable refurbished bikes, or training for complete beginners, they’re there, tools in hand and smiles on faces.
What’s New at RideWise?
Turning 20 hasn’t slowed them down – it’s kicked things into a higher gear! Their latest strategy brings even more exciting ways to get involved:
- Online Walk Leader Training Courses – Perfect for health & community centres, businesses, and individuals who wants to help others get out and get active with walks in their local areas.
- Smoothie Bike Hire – Blending fun and fitness! These pedal-powered fruity smoothie makers are a hit at schools, parties, and community & corporate events – and yes, adults love them too! Who doesn’t want to earn their smoothie the fun way? Book one now to see just how much fun it is!!
These new additions join all the RideWise classics: Learn to Ride sessions, Bike Maintenance Workshops, Dr Bikes, Build-a-Bike projects, Community Health Walks and more. It’s a full menu of fun, practical, and empowering services that help people move more and live better.
But It’s Not All Smooth Riding…
Like many charities, RideWise faces funding cuts and challenges. But the team is fired up and moving forward, fuelled by passion, partnerships, and the incredible community that’s grown around them.
“This isn’t just our story – it’s Nottinghamshire’s. We’re proud of what we’ve built together and even more excited about what’s ahead,” says Helen.
