Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has awarded £5,000 from its Community Wellbeing Fund to support a project in Cotgrave that is helping to create an inclusive and supportive environment for young people.
The project led by The Pythian Club, has so far engaged with over 150 young people through outreach and engagement activities, and over 120 adults have engaged through outreach and partnership working.
As part of the project, the Club delivered a multi-sports youth programme held at the Cotgrave Young People’s Centre, offering a wider variety of fitness-based activities to support young people’s physical and mental wellbeing.
The sessions have helped participants build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills. In addition to physical activity, the project also signposted young people to opportunities in education, training, and employment, supporting them to make informed decisions about their future.
RBC’s Deputy Leader Cllr Abby Brennan recently met The Pythian Club’s CEO Ben Rosser and young participants in Cotgrave to discuss the impact of the project.
Cllr Brennan said: “It was great to meet everyone to see first-hand how young people are benefiting from The Pythian Club’s work in Cotgrave and beyond.
“We’re pleased to support the delivery of this inclusive programme through the Community Wellbeing Fund, offering structured activities alongside mentoring and progression opportunities.
“This project helps to promote positive behaviours, reduce anti-social activities and support young people’s physical, emotional and social development. Thank you to Ben and the team at The Pythian Club for their commitment to this vital project supporting our future generations.”
Ben added: “The Cotgrave programme demonstrates our continued commitment to inclusion, compassion, and community impact. By focusing on understanding, patience, and meaningful engagement, we have created a space where young people, especially those often marginalised felt they truly belonged.
