Planning Inspectorate grant planning consent for new crematorium

25/09/2019 by Digital Media

The Planning Inspectorate has granted planning consent for plans for a new crematorium based at Stragglethorpe near Cotgrave.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s planning committee had initially turned down proposals for the site in March based on Main Road in the village but developers Mercia Crematoria Developments saw a successful appeal against refusal awarded on Tuesday (September 24).

Leader Cllr Simon Robinson said: “The Planning Inspectorate’s decision means we will now work with the developer to evaluate the situation and sensitively consider the next steps.

“We are aware of the feelings of local councillors and some of our local communities on the potential new site.

“The Cabinet will consider the best way forward with regards the Council’s involvement in any future crematorium in the borough. We have highlighted the need for additional facilities in Rushcliffe for residents dealing with family bereavement but equally we understand the concerns raised to date around location.

“We will be engaging with Mercia over the next few weeks to understand their plans more fully.”
