Over £2,000 raised for the British Heart Foundation

17/04/2026 by Digital Media

A quiz, pie and mash night held at Attenborough Cricket Club on 6 February has raised more than £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation, thanks to the generosity of the local community.

The event was organised and hosted by Sue Poxon, who has been fundraising for the charity for the past five years in loving memory of her late husband, Phil, who sadly passed away from an aneurysm. Friends, family and local businesses came together for the evening, showing overwhelming support for the cause.

One of the highlights of the night was the pie and mash supper, generously provided by Alice Wishart, co-owner of Bizzy Kidz, who supplied 84 meals for attendees. Several other local businesses also contributed prizes and support for the event, including Smart Home Living, Hallams Fruit and Veg Shop, Bistro 66 and Fahrenheit Plumbing and Heating.

Sue also paid special thanks to Gracie and Phoebe Rayner, who volunteered their time to help behind the bar throughout the evening.

Funds were raised through ticket sales, a cake stall and a raffle, helping the event surpass the £2,000 mark on the night.

Sue said: I’ve been overwhelmed by the kindness and support shown by the community. Since beginning our fundraising efforts, we have raised more than £15,000 for the British Heart Foundation and we are committed to continuing to fundraise in Phil’s memory.”
