Newsreader swaps mic for ‘Move it or Lose it’

01/06/2022 by Digital Media

Former BBC Radio Nottingham newsreader & presenter Pip Watts has hung up her headphones after 25 years in broadcasting, and is now teaching “Move it or Lose it“ fitness classes for the over 60s in Notts, including East Leake. But she’ll still be playing some great music from down the decades!

Some of Pip’s reviews say “Every move is so relevant. It feels a bit like having my own personal trainer” Another says “It’s just right, with no complicated moves“ and “ I have more energy after class, plus I love the music!“

Pip started her career aged 16 working at Birmingham’s Pebble Mill studios. After a stint at Nottingham’s Central TV & in commercial radio, she moved to BBC Radio Nottingham. She recalls interviewing many fascinating celebrities.

“Popstar Lulu was great fun – despite researching her whole life we chatted about favourite foods! And I missed my bus home because Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet wouldn’t stop talking.”

When the pandemic struck, she saw increased numbers of older adults becoming isolated, so re-trained with Move it or Lose it. Pip says “They’re fun classes to improve strength and balance, without getting down on the floor. You can stay seated or stand up. The research shows that done regularly, they can help people turn the clock back on their bodies by nearly 10 years . And it’s wonderful to see friendships being made with plenty of laughter in class”.

Join Pip at East Leake Village Hall on Wednesdays at 1.45pm. To book your place, see “Move it or Lose it with Pip” on facebook or call 07753 606183.
