Although the Museum has been closed for the winter it was decided to carry out some repairs particularly with regard to dampness.
With the help of a grant from the Parish Council some of the earth that has built-up against the outside walls has been removed and it is also hoped to carry out work in the interior to reduce moisture.
Amongst recent Museum donations was a Washing Dolly – photographs of this can be seen below.
As you can see from the photographs below, a tool with a central pole and two horizontal arms used, before the invention of washing machines, for washing laundry in a dolly tub. It will be displayed along with a tub which is already exhibited in the Museum.
The Dolly was plunged up and down and twisted from side to side in the tub. The legs would take hold of the laundry and move it around in the hot soapy water.
The Museum is open on the last Sunday afternoon of each month during the summer, April till September, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
The next day the Museum is open to visitors is Sunday 27th April.
