The Bookcase in Lowdham celebrated Independent Bookshop Week as part of their annual book festival in June with a fantastic programme of author events.
Local families enjoyed a Magic Science session and local author Karen Swann shared her beautiful story The Tale of the Whale in a special session for pre-school children.
So many bestselling authors visited throughout the festival including Amanda Craig, Alan Johnson (photo below) and James Naughtie – and there was a special Nature themed day with illustrator Rebecca Batterbury, Belvoir Osprey project organiser Simon Curtin and local wildlife photographer Jack Perks.
A Crime themed day followed with two fantastic panels of authors (photo right), and the celebrations continued with a poetry afternoon, an evening with Marcus Alton on Brian Clough and a film night.
There were fascinating evenings with former Old Bailey Judge Her Honour Wendy Joseph KC talking about our legal system, and historian Jane Robinson discussing her book Trailblazer, the story of the first feminist to change our world.
The festivities finished with children’s authors Troy Jenkinson and Emily Wysall at Lowdham school gala which had a bookish theme this year!
Jane Streeter from The Bookcase says: “I am so grateful to the wonderful community here for supporting the shop and festival so wonderfully every year. We are so lucky to have great venues to welcome our authors and audience to – very special thanks must go to Jacky and Mike Hoare and their team at Lowdham Village Hall. They really provide the most fantastic facilities and always make us so welcome. And of course thanks to my brilliant colleagues at the bookshop for their hard work and dedication to the cause!”
The Bookcase runs a programme of events all year round – for details look at their website www.thebookcase.co.uk or email [email protected] to keep up with news of all their events.
