In June, East Leake Basketball Club celebrated its two year anniversary! Formed by East Leake residents in 2022 with the purpose of providing a fun and welcoming environment for local people to play basketball, its players are aged 16-50+ with a range of abilities and experience.
“We’re lucky to have such a great group of players who make this possible each week. I really hope it is something that continues for years to come.” said Toby Cannon, who is part of the organising committee alongside Jamie Perridge, Nate Kempson and James Harrison.
The club is a great way for local basketball players to meet new people. When not on the court, players regularly meet at the local pubs and have enjoyed a Christmas meal together at Heat for the past two years.
East Leake resident, Danny Grayson-Gaunt, has been a regular player since the club formed and said: “East Leake Basketball has built a great club, where anyone and everyone who is interested in playing basketball is welcome. You’re not committed to playing every week, just whenever you can make it. Everyone is really friendly and supports each other!”
The UK Chief Medical Officer recommends at least 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity each week and sports clubs like this are a great way to remain active in a fun environment.
East Leake Basketball is a not-for-profit club and players pay just £3 per week to cover the cost of the court hire. The club plays casual, full court games at East Leake Leisure Centre from 8:30pm-10.00pm every Monday evening and they are currently welcoming new players.
