Local resident prepares 15th Christmas lights display for charity

06/11/2026 by Digital Media

It’s that time of year again, and Gamston resident David Carter will be lighting up his home with a fantastic Christmas display to raise money for charity.

This will be the 15th year David has put on his mesmerising festive Christmas display outside his home to raise funds for the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre.

Santa Claus will perform the “Grand Switch On” on Sunday 22 November from 5pm.

There will be the usual raffle with excellent prizes, alongside an animated light show featuring sound-to-light effects and talking heads.
David said: “My display will be raising money for the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre, to which I am affiliated. All donations go towards helping care for the wonderful animals and running the centre, and they will be very much appreciated.

“Bearing in mind the centre is independently funded and costs over £800,000 to run annually, it receives no financial aid from the RSPCA National Society. Last year, I raised over £12,000. This year, I would like to exceed this amount, especially because of the cost-of-living crisis and the fact that our costs have skyrocketed.”

David has received amazing feedback from visitors. He said: “I constantly get asked, ‘Are you doing it again this year?’ It is now expected that the display goes ahead, and it will be no different this Christmas, as I can’t let the children down.”

When asked why he puts on the display, David said: “I love doing it and get very excited seeing the children’s faces light up, especially when they point at the different lights and effects.

“It is also amazing how the donations come in. Some nights you hardly see anyone, and the amounts given really surprise you.”

Donations can be made by putting money into the red collection box outside the house. Alternatively, visitors can use the QR code on the noticeboard to access the JustGiving page, which also accommodates Gift Aid.

If you cannot make the Grand Switch On on 22 November, don’t worry! David’s Christmas display will be on daily from 4pm to 9pm until 1 January.

Every child visiting the display receives a free lollipop.

There will also be a Santa’s Grotto this year in a brand-new building, open on 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19 December from 5pm to 8pm.

There is no charge to visit the grotto, but a donation per child is requested. Each child will receive a gift, and visitors are welcome to take their own photos. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

All times are subject to change.

David’s Christmas lights display can be found at 4 Sandale Close, Gamston, NG2 6QG.
