Local man to run London Marathon for RNID

29/03/2024 by Digital Media

On Sunday 21st April, East Leake resident Graeme Smith will be taking on the mammoth task of running 26.2 miles in the London Marathon.

Many athletes will be raising money for charity and Graeme is no different as he’ll be running for the Royal National Institute for Deaf people (RNID). A charity very close to his heart.

Back in 2009, Graeme was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma, during the second year of his undergraduate degree at The University of Nottingham.

The surgery required left him completely deaf in his left ear and he’s lived with hearing loss for the last fifteen years.

Graeme explained: “Experience has shown me that hearing loss is still treated, by many in the general public, as only a minor hindrance. I hope raising money for RNID will help to change those attitudes and make life more inclusive for people with hearing loss.”
