After 8 years of quiet campaigning by Friends of Beeston Station (FOBS) the lifts at the Station were opened by the Minister for Future of Roads, Lilian Greenwood MP on Thursday 6 March.
Trish Roberts-Thomson, the Chair of FOBS said: “This day is special for us and is the culmination of lots of work behind the scenes.”
She thanked the Access for All Programme from the Department of Transport, which had funded the project, the work of the former Broxtowe MPs Anna Soubry and Darren Henry, and Network Rail and East Midlands Railway. “All have played their part.” Trish said.
FOBS is now looking ahead to working with East Midlands Railway to develop the area outside the Ticket Office. In addition, more restoration work is planned by Network Rail to upgrade the canopies and restore the shelters.
Trish continued: “We hope the lifts will make a difference to many people. The Station is now easy to use and with more work to come, will be even more attractive. Beeston Station will look even better in the future.”
