Dawn’s Cards has been a staple part of Clifton for almost 40 years and on Saturday 30th March, the shop will close for the final time.
Dawn and her partner Eric, have ran Dawn’s Cards on Southchurch Drive for 14 years, after standing on the market for 25 years previous to that.
As the saying goes ‘all good things must come to an end’ and a truer word couldn’t be said here, as the pair look forward to their upcoming retirement.
Speaking with Dawn, she explained: “We officially finish on the 30th March which is Easter Saturday. It’s a perfect time to retire, as the weather starts to pick up and we can get on our walking boots.
“We’re very much looking forward to a few holidays this year, without having to think about business and also spending time with our friends and family, especially our three young granddaughters.”
Looking back over the years, Dawn has plenty of amazing memories. She explained: “I still remember the day we moved into the shop. It was quite emotional and the boys that had worked for us for years on the market helped us move in.
“We’ve never lost contact with them, attending their weddings, seeing their families grow and them all do really well in their new careers.”
Dawn has taken part in various charity events which include a number of parachute jumps and walks for various charities. 15 years ago she climbed Kilimanjaro for Marie Curie.
She said: “Our loyal customers have always been generous in sponsoring me, which I will always be grateful for.
“We’ll really miss all of our fantastic customers. We have made some life long friends through trading in Clifton for 39 years.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who have kept us going all these years and also thanks for the memories.
“Please pop in and see us at our ‘End of an Era Bash’ on Saturday 30th March. I’m sure it’ll be an emotional farewell.”
