Gethin Edwards, a dedicated teacher at Pierrepont Gamston Primary School in West Bridgford, has been awarded a Silver Award for Teacher of the Year in a Primary School in the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
Mr Edwards, who has been teaching at Pierrepont Gamston for the past 3 years, has been specifically working with students in years 5 and 6. Parents of his current class were moved to nominate him for the award due to his consistent dedication and commitment to ensuring their children feel loved, accepted, and motivated to reach their full potential. The heartfelt comments from his pupils were integral to his nomination, with many expressing how he had inspired them in ways they never thought possible.
This year, Mr Edwards is one of 102 deserving individuals named as silver winners in the awards. These winners will now be in contention for the coveted Gold Award, which will be announced at a prestigious ceremony later in the year. Mr Gray, Mrs Ayo-Price, Mrs Carey and Mrs Taylor-Dykes were also nominated by parents and received a certificate for EYFS team of the year.
At Pierrepont Gamston we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful staff we have at school – a big thank you to all parents and pupils who have taken the opportunity to write a thank you to teachers and teaching assistants across the school. We had a wonderful celebration on Wednesday morning where all staff were recognised. Mr Edwards’ class even wrote a special song in his honor which they performed for the whole school. A big thank you to Morrisons for the donation of cakes for all pupils and staff to make it extra special!
In a statement celebrating National Thank a Teacher Day, Michael Morpurgo, author, former Children’s Laureate, and President of the Teaching Awards Trust, said: “The work and devotion of all of those who play a role in educating young people is phenomenal. Not only do they play a vital role in shaping minds inside the classroom, often they continue to encourage, support, motivate and inspire beyond. That’s why it is important for us to take a moment on this National Thank a Teacher Day to recognise their efforts.”
The Pearson National Teaching Awards, organised by the Teaching Awards Trust, aim to celebrate the transformative impact of education and highlight the crucial roles teachers, support staff, colleges, schools, and early years educators play in inspiring young people every single day. Congratulations to Mr Edwards on this well-deserved achievement!
