The Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Sue Paterson, raised a specially commissioned Armed Forces Day Flag in The Square, Beeston on Monday 24 June at 11.00am to mark a week of events being held across the country.
Sir John Peace, Freeman of Broxtowe and former Lord Lieutenant and soldiers from The Royal Engineers Works Groups, joined Councillor Paterson to raise the flag and address representatives from the uniformed organisations to show our support and recognise the contributions of all those who serve or have served in His Majesty’s Armed Forces.
“I’m glad that we can have our flag raising ceremony in Beeston Square. Flying this flag is our way of showing support and gratitude for all the Armed Forces do.” said Councillor Sue Paterson.
“The Armed Forces Service personnel has made huge personal sacrifices to protect the UK and its interests both overseas and on home soil. They are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers, providing security and fighting terrorism. I would like to thank all of them for working tirelessly to defend the Country and protecting our lives no matter what we are facing.”
“At the same time, local authorities, members of the public, businesses and schools throughout the country will also raise their own Armed Forces Day flags to honour the nation’s servicemen and women.’’
