We were delighted to welcome two more new members and a returning visitor to our August monthly meeting. A very sociable evening followed as we took a break from life’s stresses and strains just using some paper, pencils and dice!
In the cool of the village hall, amid much laughter and kindly encouragement, our ladies enjoyed some friendly competition at our Beetle Drive.
A good attendance allowed for 7 tables of 4 players to take part. With each player on the table taking a turn to roll the dice, some with very flamboyant techniques, the search for the elusive 6 for the body before adding any other parts, left some floundering. However, other players were able to draw their beetles quite rapidly and shouts of Beetle ensued, stopping everyone in their tracks. After 8 games, final scores were added up and the winner, the Golden Beetle, was Christine Horton who was rewarded with a bottle of wine. After all the excitement, refreshments were served and members were able to sign up for our upcoming events and activities and socialise together.
This month we will be walking in the beautiful grounds of Wollaton Park, postponed from the hottest day on record! We are also holding a Coffee, Chat and Craft morning where members can catch up over refreshments and bring along their knitting, craft or just themselves, as well as heading out for dinner at the Kings Arms at Hathern, a new venue for us.
The day before our monthly meeting, many members had attended a service at St Mary’s Church, East Leake, to celebrate the life of our longstanding member and friend, Marian Forrester. We will all miss and remember fondly this lovely, positive, cheerful, supportive member of our WI who was involved in so many of our projects, events and activities over the years.
Our next monthly meeting is on Tuesday 13th September at 7.30 pm in the village hall on Main Street when we will be welcoming Jo Golby who will be telling us about “The Life of a Ladies’ Maid”.
If you’re unable to make this talk, please visit our page on the village website https://east-leake.co.uk/east-leake-womens-institute/ for details of our full programme of speakers or look out for our posters on the village noticeboards.
