Visitors to Fordes coffee shop in West Bridgford on Saturday 7th December were somewhat surprised to be greeted by a team of local amateur athletes who had come together to raise money for Nottinghamshire Hospice on behalf of local man Sam Perkins, who was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease aged 38.
As reported in last months West Bridgford Local News, the event, Spin Against MND, was organised by local businesswomen Una Lacey, owner of Formula 4Fitness in East Leake and Sarah Vernau of Fordes. The fundraising event saw a team of 15 local athletes cycle in relay whose initial aim was to cover a distance of 200 miles on stationary bikes outside the local coffee shop on Tudor Square.
Sarah told West Bridgford Local News: “It was a great day with a great buzz. Special thanks to Una for organising everything, and all of those who took part. Loads of people stopped by to donate and have a chat about what we were doing. We were surprised how many people had a story to share about someone they know with MND so I think it resonated with a lot of people”.
She continued: “Overall we cycled 600 miles and raised £500 just in the collection buckets. Sam’s donation page is now at just over £8000 out of his £10,000 target. A massive thank you everyone for your generosity in supporting this cause”.
Those still wishing to donate can still do so via Sam’s justgiving webpage:
