On Sunday 29 September 2024 Footprints Charity Patron Richard Whitehead MBE once again officially started the Robin Hood Half Marathon and took part in the event.
Richard has recently achieved the accolade of a Guinness World Record for the quickest marathon time for an athlete with bilateral knee amputations, and has been training hard for the Autumn marathons.
To celebrate, over the summer Footprints ran a children’s competition to design the blades which Richard ran in, following a successful competition in 2023. This was a huge success again, with the charity receiving over 80 creative and impressive entries from a number of children and schools across the region.
And Footprints is very excited to announce that Billy from Jesse Gray Primary School was Richard’s overall winner! Billy’s colourful design was printed on the blades that Richard ran in in this years Robin Hood Half Marathon.
Richard was so impressed with all of the entries that he also chose two runner up designs, one from Lady Bay Primary School and one from The Fernwood School.
Billy, the 2024 winner, came down to the Embankment before the event to meet Richard, and see his design in real life printed on the blades!
Footprints is proud to again be a Charity Partner of Robin Hood Marathon and had over 30 people in their team who took part in both the Half and Mini Marathon. They also had a team of volunteers who manned the event village, working as marshals and cheering on all of the amazing runners.
This year, the event has raised over £15,000 for the Nottingham based charity and is one of the key events in their fundraising calendar, raising awareness and money.
