On Sunday, 29 September, Badminton Shuttles Stars organised the 2nd Annual Children’s Badminton Tournament – Back2School 2024.
Rushcliffe Arena – The ‘home’ of the club was obviously the chosen venue where the volunteer coaches – Mr Nimesh Christian (Badminton England certified Level 2 coach) and Mr Nishit Patel – run free kids’ coaching workshops every Sunday.
There were 15 children who competed under two categories of singles games of badminton. Age group 7 to 10 years had ten children and age group 10 to 14 years had five participants. All children played every other participant in their category in a round-robin fashion. The top 2 winners in each categories played a best of 3 games final.
The final of the Under 10’s was played between Shri and Kavin who are also part of the Notts Outlaws squad. To everyone’s surprise Shri literally ruled over Kavin in the first game! Kavin being no.1 ranked player in singles, Badminton England U10 bounced back and won the match 2 games to 1.
The final of the over 10’s was played between Shrey and Albin-Prince. These beginner badminton players from The Nimesh’s Amateur Badminton Coaching, knew each other’s style very well. Shrey’s come back in the second game was notable. Albin-Prince showed the resistance and won the match 2 games to 1.
The parents and children, mainly from South Asian Communities of Rushcliffe Borough Nottinghamshire, enjoyed the occasion and celebrated by eating healthy fruits and drinking water only!
A public “Thank You” to Sundari, Sharat, Shiva, Vineet, Madhuri, Kumanan, Bhagyesh and all the volunteers who made this possible.
These are some of club’s 30 regular adult players who make everything possible. Shall we hope to see you there next year too!!?
