East Leake Folk Club (ELFs) – Not just folk!

24/12/2022 by Digital Media

ELFs was formed in January 2010 and consists of a group of friends, mainly from the village of East Leake, who meet on the first and third Tuesday evenings of each month in the room off the courtyard of the Nag’s Head pub (14 Main Street, LE12 6PG) in East Leake.

We enjoy playing and singing traditional songs and also enjoy songs and music from a much wider field, as chosen and suggested by our members. Elvis, Bob Dylan, The Ink Spots and other genres feature occasionally. For this reason, we have been considering changing our name to more accurately reflect the wider range of music and songs we like to share.

Our format is basically a sing-along with musicians joining in and we have an extensive body of song words and chords that members can access.  We reserve a little time mid-evening for members to do a solo if they wish.  We’re a very informal bunch who encourage everyone to join in with the singing and playing, no matter what abilities and skills they have! You do not need to be an accomplished singer or musician to take part; some come to sing, some come to play (or try to play!) an instrument, some might read a poem, some might tell a joke. Anyone who wants to come and just listen is welcome to do so.

From time to time, some of our regular members will give performances, usually to support charity organisations. This has included performances at Costock and West Leake Village Halls of ‘Wot the Folk’, a show written by the group demonstrating a selection of folk songs and music from around the UK. We have also performed at the Co-op and a local care home.

New members are welcome.  Anyone interested in coming along, just turn up at the Nag’s Head on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 8pm onwards.
