Don’t lose your voice – check your canvass form to ensure you are registered to vote

27/07/2023 by Digital Media

Local residents in Rushcliffe are being warned not to lose their voice on matters that affect them by completing their annual canvass form when it arrives through the post in the coming weeks.

With elections set to take place in the Borough next year, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can vote and have their say.

The form ensures that Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) can keep the electoral register up to date and identify any residents who are not registered to vote so that they can be encouraged to do so.

All residents are asked to follow instructions on the form and respond where required.

Where a response is needed, please complete the form online at www.householdresponse.com/rushcliffe.

Those who have moved address recently are particularly encouraged to keep an eye out for the form and ensure the details are correct and up to date.

Kath Marriott, Electoral Registration Officer at Rushcliffe Borough Council said: “It’s important that residents respond as soon as possible where they are required to do so and ensure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in Rushcliffe.

“To make sure you are able to have your say at any elections taking place next year, simply check the form when it arrives through the post and respond where necessary.

“If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear on the form. If you want to register, the easiest way is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we’ll send you information explaining how to do this in the post.”

Research by the independent Electoral Commission indicates that recent home movers are far less likely to be registered than those that have lived at the same address for a long time.

There’s lots of helpful information about registering to vote on the Electoral Commission https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter.

Any residents who have any questions can email RBC’s local registration team at [email protected]or call 0115 981 9911.
