I located the Queens Head pub in Ockbrook village, next to Borrowash, Derbyshire and, from recommendations, decided to try this hostelry. Certainly, first impressions are most excellent, with the ambience and decor forthcoming, to my delights and enjoyment.
To commence, for my visit, I opted for Cheesy Button Mushroom Bruschetta. This had my taste buds suitably primed and ready for the following courses. For main I selected Signature Hunter’s Chicken (Grilled chicken breast topped with streaky bacon, melted mozzarella, Cheddar and a deliciously sticky BBQ sauce, set on marinara sauce – served with ultimate chunky chips, beer-battered onion rings, peas and grilled tomato). Sides offer fries, dressed side salad, plus other options, including vegetables, if you wish. Great on taste and with splendid presentation, this main course absolutely did not disappoint, in any way. ‘Compliments to Chef’ were duly sent, of course. Head Chef, Karen, ensures the impressiveness. Other very popular choices include All-Day Breakfast, Seafood Pie, Lasagne, Steaks and much more.
From the tempting desserts my thoughts were drawn to Eton Mess Sundae. I do like to see how different restaurants produce and present this ‘classic’. I was most impressed, with the prominent flavours. Worthwhile exploring Sunday Roast, Fizz Fridays, Cocktails and more, if I may suggest.
Thank you to Julie and James, for their genuine welcome and excellent service throughout. Very much recommended.
As always, enjoy! Trevor Langley
