Did you know that we have a choir in Calverton?

06/11/2019 by Digital Media

No? Well we do, and we are looking for new members!

The choir has been running for many years, and started life as Calverton Churches Together Choir, with people from the local churches joining together to do something that they all enjoyed; singing!

We have evolved over the years, and you do not have to belong to one of the churches to join us, nor do you actually need to live in Calverton these days. We sing all types of music too; from pop to choral. You don’t actually have to be able to read music either, but you do have to enjoy singing; and singing in the choir can give you all these benefits:

  • It strengthens the immune system. …
  • It’s a workout! …
  • It improves your posture. …
  • It helps with sleep. …
  • It’s a natural anti-depressant. …
  • It lowers stress levels. …
  • It improves mental alertness. …
  • It can widen your circle of friends.

We are currently practising for our Christmas Concert, so why not come along and see what you think at one of our Thursday evening practises, which are held at the Baptist Church on Main Street, Calverton, starting at 7:30 pm.

Or you could come to one of our concerts and see what you think! The concert is on Friday and Saturday evening, 13th and 14th December, and will be held in St Wilfrids Church, Calverton at 7.30 pm. Entrance is free, but we always have a collection at the end of the concert for a charity of the Choir’s choice.

This year our charity is the Emmaus Trust at Newark – their aim is to help local homeless and vulnerable young people. They provide high quality accommodation with professional care, support and training, and more than a temporary home, they aim to give those in their care a real opportunity to learn and develop as individuals. Developing the skills to move on to independence and employment, they support homeless individuals aged 16 – 25 years old.

We hope to see you at one of our practises or concerts!
