Carnarvon Primary pupils encourage safer school parking

02/04/2026 by Digital Media

Pupils at Carnarvon Primary School in Bingham have been working hard on a creative project designed to raise awareness about safe and responsible parking around their school.

The children have been making colourful and eye-catching posters to display around the school grounds and on nearby streets. Their goal is to help educate parents, carers, and visitors about the importance of parking safely and legally when dropping off or collecting children.

Parking around schools can often become very busy, particularly during drop-off and pick-up times. Cars parked on pavements, across driveways, or on the recently marked double yellow lines can make it difficult for pedestrians to move safely and can cause frustration for local residents. By creating these posters, the pupils hope to remind drivers to think carefully about where they park and how their actions affect others.

The posters, which will be displayed around the school highlight simple but important messages, such as leaving space for pedestrians, avoiding blocking driveways and following the highway code. They also encourage everyone to be respectful of the people who live near the school. Many residents experience regular disruption because of unsafe or inconsiderate parking, with the pupils and staff wanting to help improve this situation.

Helen Weston, School Business Manager said: “This project has given the children an opportunity to take an active role in their community and show that even small actions can make a big difference. Through their artwork and messages, they hope to encourage drivers to slow down, park responsibly, and help make the area around the school safer for everyone.”

While parking can be an ongoing challenge for many schools, the pupils at Carnarvon Primary School hope their colourful approach will help spread an important message and inspire positive change.
