British Volleyball played host to some of Europe’s best Sitting Volleyball players as the UK’s first international Sitting Volleyball tournament since London 2012 Paralympics came to the David Ross Sports Village.
One of the GB players selected for the tournament was Andrea Green (52) from Beeston, who suffered a back injury in 2005 which left her with footdrop. The NHS community physiotherapist, who works with adults with learning and mental difficulties was delighted to be part of the squad.
The event saw a total of nine men and women’s teams from across the continent come together in a crucial tournament to try and secure qualification for the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.
Great Britain’s squads put in an inspiring performance as hosts of the tournament and demonstrated their strong determination to qualify for Paris 2024 and beyond. The women’s team rose from some pool-match defeats to eventual silver medallists after exhilarating wins against France, and the men battled hard and came close to a couple of upsets that could have seen them advance to a medal match, but eventually finished fifth.
