Rushcliffe MP, Ruth Edwards is supporting the Nottinghamshire based charity Forget Me Notts by taking on Trent Bridge’s #Donate4Dementia challenge. Ruth will join fellow participants to zip wire across the historic stadium to raise money for the dementia charity.
Forget Me Notts uses sport to build a community between people with dementia, their carers and those experiencing isolation and loneliness.
The 190m challenge will see Ruth and the other participants reach speeds of up to 40 mph while raising funds and awareness for this fantastic cause.
Ruth launched her fundraising challenge to coincide with Dementia Awareness Week. She also attended the Alzheimer’s Society’s event in Parliament to hear about their Dementia Action Week campaign and learn about the diagnosis process and diagnosis rates in Rushcliffe.
It is thought that there are between 900,000 and 1 million people living in the UK with dementia. That’s why the Government has committed to doubling dementia research to a total of £160 million a year by 2024, with an additional £95 million being provided to increase clinical trials and research projects.
Ruth said: “This cruel disease has touched many of our lives. My grandfather died from it and one of my aunt’s suffers from it too. I have seen how the people we love can disappear in front of us as dementia runs its course, taking them from us before they die.
“That’s why I am supporting Forget Me Notts and the #Donate4Dementia challenge. They provide incredible support to patients and carers in Rushcliffe.”
