A Beeston opticians has joined forces with a local charity to collect donations of food and toiletries for people in need during the cost-of-living crisis.
Colleagues at the Specsavers store in Chilwell Road are supporting Broxtowe Community Projects, which runs schemes to help relieve poverty in the local community, including a food and healthcare bank.
The staff have been collecting donations of food, nappies and toiletries since the beginning of the year and recently received a £100 donation from one of the store’s customers which was used to buy even more products for the charity.
‘We wanted to do something to help those less fortunate than ourselves and give something back to our community,’ says retail director Krishna Parmar. ‘When we heard about the food bank project, it seemed like something that we could support along with our customers.
‘People can bring in donations to our store which we will then pass on to Broxtowe Community Projects. It’s a chance for people in the community to really make a difference during these challenging times.’
Broxtowe Community Projects operate projects that relieve poverty in the Broxtowe area of Nottingham, primarily via a self-referral food, nappy and toiletries bank that local people can access. They also operate social meals, pay-as-you-feel meals, and warm banks.
