In the May issue of Beeston Local News, we asked for local residents to get in touch and share creative projects that were born out of their extra time during lockdown. Here’s what two of you have been up to:
Knitter Critters
34-year-old Primary School Teacher from Beeston, Heather Ward, has used her time to learn how to knit.
Now she didn’t just knit a couple of blankets, she created all sorts of cute and useful knitted critters, including a knitted bear coaster and a knitted whale phone holder which she made as a birthday present for her mum!

Action for Happiness
Dawn from Toton began facilitating a Nottingham based Action for Happiness Facebook page where she organises events and shares information to spread positivity following a difficult year. Here’s what she said:
“I am already a volunteer for Art Culture Tourism (www.artculturetourism.co.uk) I am particularly interested in the Arts and have been developing my skills in Digital Marketing.
“Over lockdown I participated in a range of creative and wellbeing focused classes with the WEA to help stay connected with others. I was introduced to Action for Happiness and the Great Dream. (www.actionforhappiness.org)
“I felt that there was a growing need for the Monthly 10 Keys of Happier Living sessions here in Nottingham given the challenges many are still facing coming through the other side of the Pandemic.
“In January I started the sessions again for Nottingham residents with another facilitator. We meet the second Tuesday of every month to discuss a different theme each month to correspond with the calendar that Action for Happiness release.
“I have set up a Facebook and Watsapp group for people to stay connected in between the meetings, please visit: www.facebook.com/NottinghamWellbeing”
“We are still in the process of building awareness of our group, which is free to join. Action for Happiness aim to build a happier society for all by helping us to find ways we can not only feel happier but spread happiness to others.”
If you’d like to share some of your own creativity and you live in Beeston, Clifton, Calverton, Burton Joyce, West Bridgford, East Leake or Rushcliffe (and the surrounding areas) please email details of your projects and photographs to: [email protected].
