On Friday 25 April, Narinder ‘Baz’ Basi and a band of other individuals took part in a 24hr charity ‘Poolathon’ to allow for the purchase and installation of a new defibrillator in Beeston Rylands.
Having lived in the area for several years and seeing his son grow up in the area, Baz wanted to give something back. He felt that providing a 24-hour accessible defibrillator, which will be located outside the Jolly Anglers pub would be an ideal way to do so.
Did you know that the chance of surviving a cardiac arrest jumps from 6% to 74% if the casualty is in a shockable rhythm and a defibrillator is deployed within 3 minutes?
With the help of the whole of the Beeston Rylands community the target was to raise £1,500. Fantastically, the final total raised was over £1,900! Any surplus monies after buying and installing the defibrillator will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.
Starting at 9pm on Friday 25 April, Narinder ‘Baz’ Basi, Eddie Cyrek, Steve Taylor, Reece Spencer, Leighton Smith, Chris Cyrek, Andy Stevens, Craig Cavers, James Boyle and Micheal Evans potted balls throughout the night at the Jolly Anglers Pub, finishing the mammoth task at 9pm on Saturday 26 April.
Baz said: “A special thanks must go to Sherice Davies representing the Jolly Anglers staff who stayed with us for the whole 24hr duration. Also, extra special thanks to Kath Neal for surprising us by providing the participants with a full English breakfast and an evening meal!”
As part of the event, T & S Heating donated £150 and raffle prizes were donated by various local business. These included £50 airport transfer from Baz himself, Super Clean for a 2 hour house clean, Happy Phoenix for a £25 food voucher, Glamour Hair and Beauty for 2 x £15 vouchers and 3 bottles of Prosecco, Bike Lounge for two cycling helmets, Levi’s Barbers for a gents cut and Chow Down for £15 vouchers.
A special thanks must also go to Jolly Anglers landlord Drew for hosting this event and contributing towards the cost of the pool games and supplying participants with much needed tea and coffee!
