Christmas is a hectic time for choirs and this proved to be the case for local Community Choir West Bridgford Social Singers.
A busy term started with a visit to Cambridge where the choir sang at various locations and achieved nationwide fame after a herd of cows joined them on open ground near the river. One was even seen to be nodding its head in time to the music!
At the first rehearsal in September, musical director Simon Thompson and accompanist Joan Jamieson celebrated a special anniversary having worked together with the choir for 20 years.
The approach to Christmas involved taking part in the Christmas Tree Festival at St Giles Church, a carol service at West Bridgford Methodist Church, singing at Hayward House – one of this year’s chosen charities, singing in the Victoria Centre and in local pubs in West Bridgford. A group of singers also spent an evening in Sheffield singing the local carols with the Loxley Silver Band.
In January, choir members look forward to a weekend of workshops with an inspiring Norwegian conductor, Bjorn Sigurd Shelbred, and are planning a return visit to Norway at the end of May.
