West Bridgford Hockey Club raise money for Hayward House

17/12/2019 by Digital Media

West Bridgford hockey player, Ian Johnson, recently organised his own money raising event for the Hayward House Hospice and Cancer Research. Ian ‘braved the shave’ in November in memory of former club member and teammate Gary Hunt. Gary had passed away in the Autumn after a short battle against Liver Cancer.

Ian was fed up of going to funerals of close friends who had died of cancer and decided to raise money for the hospice where Gary spent his final days.

The ‘shave’ took place at West Bridgford Hockey Club on Loughborough Road, with local ‘barber’ Esta from Warren’s Barber Shop in West Bridgford, who kindly gave her services for free.

Over £1200 was raised online for Cancer research with a further donation of £800 to Hayward House which was raised on the day through direct donations and a raffle for a bottle of Malt Whisky.
