Young members of the 9th West Bridgford (Holy Spirit) Beaver Scouts marked a major milestone this week as they celebrated the 40th anniversary of Beaver Scouts in the UK with a special birthday party.

On Wednesday 20th May, the group celebrated, complete with birthday cake, party activities and commemorative gifts for the children.
Special guests Hilary and Lawrie Jackson joined the colony for the occasion. The couple, who are grandparents of one of the current members, helped establish one of the country’s first Beaver Scout colonies in Yorkshire in 1986, the same year the section was launched nationally.
Sharing memories of their years as volunteer leaders, Hilary and Lawrie spoke to the young Beavers about how the movement has grown over the past four decades. To mark the anniversary, they also presented each child with a cuddly toy beaver and a special 40th celebration badge.
Leaders at 9th West Bridgford said: “The evening was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about the history of Beaver Scouts while celebrating the friendships, adventures and community spirit that remain at the heart of the organisation today.”
The group meets every Wednesday evening and is now appealing for more volunteers to help support its growing membership and activities.
