We are all wonders

25/09/2025 by Digital Media

Just before we broke up for the Summer Holidays, Gunthorpe C of E held a thought provoking Diversity Day, centred on the theme “We Are All Wonders” a book by R J Palacio. It was a day filled with reflection, learning, and creativity as we explored what makes each of us unique, while also recognising the threads that connect us all.

Children reflected on the idea that everyone is wonderfully made, with their own special gifts, backgrounds, and experiences. Through stories, discussions, and activities, we celebrated both individuality and community.

Other activities included learning about Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, whose powerful story showed us how determination and courage can overcome life’s challenges. Emmanuel’s journey inspired pupils to see ability, not limitation, and to think about how we can support and include others.

We also explored different types of families, learning that love and care are what truly make a family. Discussions around racism and respect helped children understand the importance of standing up for fairness and treating everyone with kindness. Our infant children enjoyed learning to say hello in different languages and had great fun tasting snacks from around the world, helping them appreciate the richness of global cultures in a hands-on, joyful way.

Throughout the day, pupils took part in creative activities and thoughtful conversations that helped build empathy, celebrate diversity, and strengthen our shared values.

Diversity Day reminded us that while we are all different, we are all valuable—woven together by kindness, respect, and the belief that everyone belongs.

We have places in some year groups for Sept 2025. Please contact the school office (0115 9663481) if you are interested in having a tour of the school.
