We enjoyed a wonderfully busy December at Gunthorpe C of E Primary School. Alongside all the festive celebrations that make school such a magical place at this time of year, we also placed great importance on supporting others. This gives our children the chance to live out our school value of Service, and nothing demonstrated this better than two special events held during the month.
Our first was an Alternative Advent, where children and their families showed amazing generosity by donating to Framework, helping homeless and vulnerable people in our community. Donations included chocolates, biscuits, warm clothing and toiletries. As always, we were blown away by the kindness shown by our families.
We also held our much-loved Senior Singalong, a treasured tradition each December. We invited elderly members of the village and our wider school family to join us for an afternoon of music and festive cheer. The children performed beautifully, and our Year 6 pupils had the honour of serving our guests tea, coffee and sweet treats. We finished with a selection of well-known carols for everyone to sing together – and we’re still not sure who enjoyed it more, the children or our very special guests!
If you, or someone you know, is looking for a school place, please contact our office on 0115 966 3481 — we would be delighted to show you around. We also have a pre-school for 3–4 year olds, with places currently available.
